Stoughton, WI : Semi driver injured in crash involving 2 semis in construction zone in Dane County on Tuesday, Oct 27, 2015

A semitrailer driver was injured in a crash Tuesday involving two trucks in an interstate construction zone in Dane County, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Officials responded just before 3 a.m. to the incident on I-39/90 near County Highway A, according to the State Patrol.

The semis were traveling south on the interstate approaching Highway A near Stoughton when they entered a restricted construction zone marked with barrels signaling a lane closure ahead.

A semi driven by Jose L. Lopez, 45, was in the right lane; he saw a semi slightly to the left behind his vehicle. That truck, driven by Michael Rutherford, 40, moved nearly beside the Lopez semi at the start of the restricted lane and forced it into the barrels. After Lopez slowed, Rutherfor passed him and crashed into an impact attenuator, or crash cushion, and a temporary concrete wall.

Rutherford's semi overturned along with a trailer carrying flour and ignited. The semi was totaled and the trailer sustained extensive damage. Rutherford was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. Lopez was not hurt.
