CORSICA, SD : Two people were injured in a crash on Wednesday, November, 15th 2017
Two people were injured in a Wednesday afternoon crash east of Corsica.
At 3:52 p.m., 72-year-old Bernard Beukelman was driving east on 273rd Street near 390th Avenue when he slowed down to make a U-turn on the south shoulder of the roadway. Beukelman, who was driving a Kubota RTV, did not see the eastbound 2010 Chevy Malibu, driven by 17-year-old Blake Moke, and continued to pull forward, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
As Beukelman drove his vehicle in front of Moke, the two collided. The RTV rolled onto its side and into the north ditch.
Beukelman, of Corsica, sustained serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Armour. He was then flown to an Avera hospital in Sioux Falls. Moke, also of Corsica, sustained minor injuries and was transported by family to a Parkston hospital.
Neither man was wearing seat belts, and Beukelman did not have a helmet. Charges are pending against both drivers.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol investigated, and other responding agencies included the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Corsica Fire Department and Corsica Ambulance.
