Orange, CA : Cyclist involved in crash with OPD car dies on Interstate 10 at Adams Bayou on Tuesday, February 23, 2016

A 19-year-old man from Orange has died from injuries sustained in a crash with an Orange Police Department vehicle.

The cyclist, identified as Devon Lynn Lestage of Orange, died on Thursday at Christus Hospital-St. Elizabeth in Beaumont, according to a press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Orange Police Officer, Brian Latiolais, was not injured in the crash.

The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Feb. 23 on the eastbound service road of Interstate 10 at Adams Bayou. Initial reports indicate the bicyclist was traveling west in the outside traffic lane of the eastbound service road. The officer was traveling east in the outside lane of the eastbound service road. As the bicyclist traveled facing oncoming traffic, he was struck by the police officer. Witnesses said the bicycle did not have any type of lighting equipment on the front of the bicycle.
