Key West, FL : A 26-year-old Stock Island man was killed in a motorcycle crash at Shrimp Road On Monday, July 11th, 2016
A 26-year-old Stock Island man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Monday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Rolando Arteaga was traveling south in the Meridian West Apartments parking lot on Shrimp Road when the crash occurred, at 7:45 a.m., reports say.
Evidence collected at the scene by troopers suggested that he was traveling at a high rate of speed on a 2015 Suzuki motorcycle, lost control and struck a curb. Arteaga was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
“The evidence on speed is based on how far the motorcycle slid after the crash and how much damage was done to it,” said FHP Lt. Kathy McKinney.
There was about $2,000 damage to the motorcycle, McKinney said.
He was not wearing a helmet, reports say.
It was not immediately known if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. An autopsy was ordered, McKinney said.
There were no other vehicles involved in the crash, McKinney said.
