Logan, UT : Southern Cache Valley sees three crashes in three minutes; no injuries on Wednesday August 31, 2016
Three separate crashes dispatched within a three-minute period left police and emergency personnel scrambling after teen drivers were dismissed from school Wednesday afternoon.
The chaos began with a three-car crash at 2:55 p.m. in Hyrum, at the intersection of 300 South and 800 East.
Three minutes later, dispatchers received reports of two more crashes. One took place on State Road 165 in Paradise, and the other occurred in Providence at the intersection of 400 South and 200 West, near the newly opened Ridgeline High School.
While there were multiple vehicles involved in each crash, none of the cars’ occupants were transported by ambulance.
One area where police expected to see crashes is at 2600 South on SR 165, where a new traffic light was installed and made operational Aug. 19.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cade Brenchley said he increased patrols in that areas soon as the light was turned on.
During that 10-day period, many people were stopped for speeding in the area, and only one person ran a red light. Since school started though, drivers have slowed significantly as they drive through the area.
