Bakersfield, CA : One killed in single-vehicle crash on Highway 223 on Monday, February 13th 2017

A 49-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 223 Monday afternoon.

The crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. when the driver of a 2014 Toyota, headed east on the highway, for unknown reasons turned left near Progress Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle crossed the westbound lane of Highway 223 and left the roadway, traveled through a chain-link fence north of the roadway as it continued east and struck a metal storage container, the CHP said. It then smashed through another chain link-fence before stopping in a dirt field.

Drugs or alcohol are not a factor, the CHP said. The name of the victim, who was a passenger in the vehicle, has not yet been released.
