Long Island City, New York
An up-and-coming 15-year-old basketball star died in a crash on Long Island, police said Thursday.
Jomani “Jo Jo” Wright was on his way to work out when the SUV he was riding in collided with a car driven by an 87-year-old man in Uniondale about 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nassau County police said.
The elderly driver’s 2006 Toyota and the 2012 Honda CR-V that Wright was riding in crashed into each other at Maple Ave. and Front St., sending the SUV slamming into a pole, according to cops.
Jomani was riding with three friends, two 17-year-old boys and an 18-year-old man. At least one of the three surviving teens was a teammate of Jomani’s.
Medics rushed Jomani, who was sitting in a rear passenger seat, to Nassau University Medical Center, but he could not be saved. All others in the crash were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
