A Lowell man was hospitalized in critical after an early morning crash on Highway 58 near Matthews Drive in the Dexter area, according to a news release from the Oregon State Police.

Christopher Ripley, 40, was riding west on his 1994 Harley Davison motorcycle about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday, following a 2016 Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Daniel Pomerenk, 58, of Olympia, Wash., according to the state police.

Pomerenk slowed the truck and turned left onto Matthews Drive, police said. That’s when Ripley drove the motorcycle into the driver’s side door of the truck near the centerline of the westbound lane.

Ripley was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield for treatment of serious injuries. Pomerenk was not injured.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation, Dexter Fire and Rescue, and the Pleasant Hill Fire Department assisted state police at the scene.
