A Clarence man was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident in which alcohol use is suspected to be a factor, State Police Troop E reported.
The victim was identified by police as John L. Turner Jr., 56, of Clarence.
Troopers responded about 1:40 p.m. Sunday to the accident on La. Highway 480 near U.S. Highway 71 in Natchitoches Parish.
Turner was driving a 2006 Toyota Corolla east on La. 480 when he lost control of the car, which went off the right side of the road, police said. He then overcorrected his vehicle, which went across the roadway and exited on the left side. The car hit a ditch and began overturning.
Turner, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Routine toxicology tests are pending, but police said alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
Troop E troopers have investigated 20 fatal crashes in 2016, resulting in 22 fatalities.
