One woman died in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 west of Belgrade on Saturday night.
The crash was reported to Montana Highway Patrol shortly after 5 p.m. a few miles west of the Belgrade interchange on I-90 at mile marker 295.
According to Sgt. Patrick McCarthy, a silver passenger car was driving west on I-90 when it crossed the interstate into the eastbound lane.
The car struck a tractor-trailer, tearing off the back axle before striking a red passenger car head-on. The semi then sideswiped another tractor-trailer.
A woman in the silver car died and a man was transported to the hospital with injuries. McCarthy said it was unclear who was driving the car.
Two occupants from the red car were also taken to the hospital with injuries.
The victim was not identified as MHP continued to investigate Saturday night.
The crash shut down the eastbound lane of Interstate 90 for hours with traffic being diverted onto Churchill Road.
In addition to MHP, the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and Central Valley Fire Department responded to the crash.
