State police say a central New York woman is dead and her 21-year-old son is hospitalized after they were in a three-vehicle crash in the Mohawk Valley.

Troopers say the crash occurred around 10 a.m. Wednesday on Route 5 in the town of Herkimer. Police say a car driven by a 60-year-old man ran a red light and struck a vehicle making a turn.

A front-seat passenger in the car that was struck, 48-year-old Karen Fuller of Utica, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in her hometown. Her son Austin, who was riding in the back seat, is in critical condition at the same hospital.

Fuller's 55-year-old husband suffered minor injuries.

Troopers say the driver of the car that caused the accident and a 24-year-old woman riding with him were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
