ATLANTA, GA : Off-duty police officer involved in fatal Atlanta crash on Wednesday, 14th September 2016
Authorities are investigating whether street racing was a factor in a fatal Midtown Atlanta crash in which the driver, an off-duty police officer, was also injured.
Georgia State Patrol Sgt. John Cronin tells news outlets that the passenger in the officer’s Dodge Challenger was killed in the wreck early Wednesday when the car hit a stone wall.
Cronin says the unidentified officer had surgery and was listed in stable condition. He says speed was “obviously” a factor in the crash.
Investigators say two people inside a second Dodge Challenger were possibly involved in the crash and have been taken in for questioning. No charges were immediately filed.
The crash caused police to close a portion of Peachtree Street near the Invesco building for about five hours.
