LAFAYETTE, LA : Five school buses involved in major crash while on way to Lake Charles for band competition on Tuesday, 5th November 2024

Several high school students were injured in a major crash on their way to a marching band competition in Lake Charles, according to the Lafayette Police Department (LPD).

Around 12:45 p.m. today, police were dispatched to a major vehicle accident on Interstate 10 Westbound near the I-10/I-49 interchange, Sgt. Robin Green of LPD said.

Five school buses and a truck pulling a band trailer from Chalmette High School in St. Bernard Parish were involved in the crash, according to school officials.

The crash happened when one of the buses collided with a bus in front of it, which caused a chain reaction with the rest of the buses, police said.
