A pedestrian was struck and killed in southeast Charlotte late Sunday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a man was driving in on E Independence Boulevard at Village Lake Drive when he hit 48-year-old Robert Martin Melton.
Medic pronounced Melton dead on scene.
Police say the driver was not impaired at the time of the crash, and say Melton was wearing dark clothing and not in the crosswalk area. Melton was crossing against the crossing signal, police say.
CMPD is investigating.
