Lawrence, KS : Two people injured in a two-vehicle crash in Douglas County on Sunday, Aug 23, 2015
A two-vehicle, rear-end collision Sunday evening in Douglas County sent two people to area hospitals, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 6:36 p.m. Sunday in the 840 block of North 950 Road, or about 31/2 miles southwest of Lawrence.
The patrol said the accident occurred when a 2003 two-door Honda Civic rear-ended a 2004 four-door Ford Focus. Both cars were eastbound on 950 Road.
After the collision, both vehicles lost control.
The Honda left the roadway to the right and overturned multiple times, coming to rest on its top facing north, the patrol said.
The Ford skidded in the roadway before it entered the south ditch, coming to rest upright facing southwest.
The Honda’s driver, Carmeio Aitamirano-Cantu,, 38, of Lawrence, suffered disabling injuries and was taken by air ambulance to The University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
A passenger in the Honda, Eddie Keltos, 27, of Lawrence, also suffered disabling injuries and was taken to Stormont-Vail HealthCare in Topeka. It wasn’t known if Keltos was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Ford, Teodulo Bernardino-Ortiz, 26, of Lawrence, was reported uninjured. Bernardino-Ortiz was alone in the Ford, the patrol said. It wasn’t known if he was wearing a seat belt.
