TOWN OF COTTAGE GROVE, WI : 73-year-old man killed while crossing Highway 12 on Wednesday, 14th September 2016
A car hit and killed a man crossing Highway 12 in the Town of Cottage Grove just after 8 o'clock Wednesday night.
Officials say the deceased is a 73-year-old male from Cottage Grove.
Preliminary investigation shows the man was walking south across Highway 12. As he entered the eastbound lane of the highway, he was struck by a Chevrolet Tahoe.
The Sheriff's Office says the man died at the scene.
The driver of the car, a 36-year-old man from Fitchburg, remained on the scene and has been cooperative with the investigation, officials say.
Highway 12 was closed in both directions for over four hours while authorities investigated the crash.
Units from Deer-Grove EMS, Monona Fire Paramedics, Cottage Grove Fire, the Dane County Sheriff's Office and Wisconsin State Patrol were originally dispatched to the call, which came in at 8:11 p.m.
The name of the deceased is not being released at this time and officials say the crash remains under investigation.
