Garden City, KS : Two teens from Oklahoma were killed in a crash in Seward County on Sunday, 20th May 2018
Two teens from Oklahoma were killed in an early-morning crash Sunday in Seward County in southwestern Kansas, authorities said.
The crash was reported at 1:16 a.m. at U.S. Highway 54 and Blue Bell Road in Liberal.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, a 1999 Dodge Durango was traveling west on Bluebell Road when it failed to stop at the dead end of Bluebell Road and traveled over a concrete curb, entering onto a divider designed to prevent traffic on Bluebell Road from entering onto US-54 highway.
As the Dodge traveled across the divider, it hit a large boulder before exiting the divider onto US-54. Once on US-54, the front-end of the Durango hit the passenger side of a 1995 BMW that was traveling northeast on US-54.
After the collision, both vehicles rotated and came to rest on US-54.
Two passengers in the BMW who were taken to Southwest Medical Center in Liberal died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, the patrol said.
The two were identified as Austin K. Olson, 18, of Collinsville, Okla., and Conner L. Smith, 19, of Tyrone, Okla.
The patrol said Olson and Smith were wearing their seat belts.
The driver of the BMW, Caleb C. Olson, 17, of Tyrone, Okla., was reported injured and was taken to Southwest Medical Center. The patrol said it was unknown if Olson was wearing a seat belt.
Another passenger in the BMW, Tyler M. Olson, 20, of Tyrone, Okla, was reported injured and was transported to Southwest Medical Center. The patrol said he was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Dodge, Rojelio V. Campa, 18 of Liberal, was reported injured and was taken to Southwest Medical Center. The patrol said Campa was wearing a seat belt.
