Sacramento, CA : Two killed, three hurt in Murphys Grade collision on Thursday, 27th October, 2016
A 79-year-old Sonora woman and a 29-year-old Angels Camp man were killed and three others were injured in a two-car collision on Murphys Grade Road near Fairview Park Court Thursday afternoon.
The California Highway Patrol reported that Christopher Dunivant of Angels Camp and Ellen Carlson of Sonora were pronounced dead at the scene of the 3 p.m. accident.
According to the CHP, Dunivant was eastbound on Murphys Grade Road in a 1994 Chrysler when he lost control of his vehicle and veered into the westbound lane directly in the path of a 2016 Nissan being driven by Charles Gates, 75, of Sonora.
Gates applied his brakes but was unable to stop and hit the right side of Dunivant’s vehicle, the CHP said.
Gates and two other passengers in his car, Judith Gates, 75, of Sonora, and Randy Gates, 53, of Plano, Texas, received moderate injuries and were treated at Sonoma Regional Medical Center. Carlson was also a passenger in Gates car.
The CHP said it doesn’t know why Dunivant lost control of his vehicle, or whether drugs or alcohol might have been involved. The accident is still under investigation and the CHP asks anyone who might have seen the accident to call 754-3541.
