Scituate, R.I : Motorcyclist dies after collision with post office truck in Scituate on Thursday, July 17, 2014

A motorcyclist died Thursday when his machine collided with a U.S. Postal Service truck on Hartford Avenue.

Police Chief David M. Randall said the motorcyclist, Richard Bailey, 55, of Stirling Drive, Glocester, was traveling east and approaching Ridgewood Drive about 12:45 p.m. when the woman driving the postal truck pulled out of Ridgewood Drive to turn left onto Hartford Avenue, traveling westbound, and collided with Bailey’s motorcycle.

Bailey was not wearing a helmet, Randall said. The man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital and pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck, a 56-year-old female mail carrier, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital for observation, Randall said.

The chief said that an accident reconstruction will be performed.
