Baton Rouge ,LA : 22-year-old Man critically injured in crash on Saturday afternoon ,July 11th 2015
A 22-year-old man was critically injured Saturday afternoon after his car crashed into a support pillar under the U.S. 90 westbound overpass, State Police Troop C spokesman Evan Harrell said.
Around 3 p.m., Craig Verdine Jr., of Patterson, was driving southbound on La. 24 toward the U.S. 90 westbound crossover bridge in Gray, when his car went through a marked construction zone and passed over a large section of metal plating covering the roadway, Harrell said.
Verdine, who was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control of his car, which rotated counter-clockwise and exited the roadway to the left, Harrell added. His car ended up striking one of the pillars under the overpass.
Verdine was airlifted to the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Alcohol use is suspected, and blood tests will be pending at the State Police Crime Lab, Harrell said.
The crash remains under investigation.
