ALEXANDRIA, SD : Montana man seriously injured in crash near Alexandria on Wednesday, August 30, 2017
A Montana man sustained life-threatening injuries Wednesday morning in a crash near Alexandria.
At approximately 8:40 a.m., 51-year-old Virgil Harbottle, of Billings, Montana, was traveling east on Interstate 90, near mile marker 344, when the 2004 Ford Escape he was driving rear-ended a semi.
Harbottle was wearing a seat belt but sustained life-threatening injuries, and charges are pending against him, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. Harbottle was transported by ambulance to Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, and was later airlifted to a Sioux Falls hospital.
The 55-year-old driver of the semi was wearing a seat belt and was uninjured in the crash.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. The Hanson County Sheriff's Office also responded.
