PENDLETON, IN : Pendleton woman dies in crash on Thursday, 15th March 2018

A 73-year-old Pendleton woman died from multiple blunt force traumatic injuries in a Thursday accident on Ind. 67 just south of Interstate 69.

Madison County Coroner Marian Dunnichay said Friday afternoon that Karen Skinner, 73, of Pendleton, was pronounced dead at St. Vincent Anderson hospital.

Dunnichay said Skinner suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries to the head and suffered a ruptured spleen.

She said a helicopter was dispatched to the hospital to transport Skinner to an Indianapolis hospital, but Skinner died before she was able to be transported.

A Dodge pickup truck collided with a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle at the intersection of Ind. 67 and Pendleton Avenue around 1 p.m. Thursday.

Madison County Sheriff Scott Mellinger said in a press release that Austin Sanner, 19, of Fortville, was driving the Dodge and was being treated for arm and back pain at St. Vincent.

The SUV, driven by Skinner, was turning onto Ind. 67 from North Pendleton Avenue when the southbound truck, which had the right of way, collided with the SUV, according to the press release. The SUV came to a stop across the highway, on the east side of the road.

Officials from the Pendleton Fire Department, Pendleton Police Department, Pendleton Emergency Medical Services, Madison County Sheriff's Department, Madison County Emergency Management Agency and Anderson Fire Department responded to the accident.
