SEATTLE, WA : Motorcyclist critically injured after being struck by hit-and-run driver on Saturday, December 31st 2016
A man was arrested after smashing into several cars and a motorcycle in Seattle's U-District Saturday afternoon, critically injuring the motorcycle rider.
The driver of a Honda SUV first collided with another vehicle at NE 45th Street and Roosevelt Way NE around 4 p.m., then sped south on Roosevelt Way, Seattle Police said. The driver then struck a car and motorcycle that were stopped at the traffic light at NE 42nd Street.
The Honda driver then continued west on NE 42nd Street and crashed into a pole a block away on 9th Ave NE. The Honda driver called 911 to report the crash and eventually walked back to where he had crashed into the motorcycle. By then, offices and medics were on the scene tending to the injured motorcycle rider, police said.
The Honda driver then tried to run away, but was quickly arrested by officers, police said. He was being evaluated for DUI and then was to be booked into the King County Jail.
The motorcycle rider was rushed to Harborview Medical Center with life threatening injuries, police said. Others involved in the two crashes were treated at the scene by medics for minor injuries.
