According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the incident occurred at approximately 9:20 pm near the intersection of Estancia Blvd. Nelligan was traveling north in his 2013 Mercedes at a high rate of speed on a wet road when he was unable to stop to avoid hitting a vehicle that was making a U-turn.
Temitope Babalola, a 35-year-old St. Petersburg man, was driving south in his 1994 Honda. His vehicle rotated counter-clockwise, crossed the center median of the roadway and burst into flames. Babalola got out of the car and suffered minor injuries.
He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center for treatment.
Nelligan suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. A passenger in his car – 36-year-old John R. King of Merritt Island – was not hurt.
Nelligan refused to provide a breath sample following his arrest by a FHP trooper. The crash snarled traffic in the area for approximately one hour.
