Baton Rouge, LA : Truck was driving erratically before fatal crash Friday night on July 4, 2014
Baton Rouge police have identified the driver of a pickup truck that plunged off Interstate 10 near Perkins Road and crashed on its roof Friday night
They tell The Advocate that 22-year-old Cory Holmes of New Roads, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. A 23-year-old woman riding in the front seat was seriously injured, while a 2-year-old boy is in stable condition after suffering minor injuries.
Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L'Jean McKneely says police believe Holmes had been drinking and was speeding.
McKneely says Holmes tried to pass another car on the I-10 shoulder, hitting a retaining wall and sedan before sliding over the railing into a parking lot below.
The lot is near several bars and restaurants, but no one else was injured.
