ITALY, TX : 11-year-old boy from Iowa dies in Texas crash on Saturday, 29th December 2018

The Texas Department of Public Safety says an 11-year-old boy from Iowa has died after a crash in Ellis County.

Authorities were called to a two-vehicle crash at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 35.

An investigation found a van was disabled in the center lane of southbound Interstate 35 due to a previous crash when the van rear-ended another vehicle.

While disabled in the lane, a pickup driving southbound in the center lane rear-ended the van, as it was dark out.

The driver of the van, 20-year-old Spencer Gull from Guttenberg, Iowa, was taken by ambulance to Parkland hospital in Dallas with non-life threatening injuries.

Also in the vehicle, 36-year-old Dustin Hayes from Dike, Iowa was taken by air ambulance to the Parkland hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities say an 11-year-old boy in the van died at the scene of the crash.
