Lee County, FL : Driver turned through red arrow, caused crash on Sunday July 27th 2014
We are getting new information about the Kia driver, Paul Lafleuer, whose condition was upgraded from critical to serious. The other driver, Latonya Moore, was also taken to the hospital but we are told she is going to be okay.
Lee County Sheriff's Office says the driver of a 2014 Kia made a left hand turn onto Winkler and ran through the red turn arrow causing a crash. The Kia was turning from Gladiolus onto Winkler when it hit the 1999 Mercury driven by Latonya Moore of Lehigh Acres whose car was traveling east on Gladiolus.
Deputies say the driver, Paul Lafleuer of Fort Myers, was hit by the driver of the Mercury as he made the turn against the red turn arrow and into the path of the oncoming car.
Both drivers had to be taken to the hospital but due to the severity of Lafleuer's life threatening injuries, a traffic homicide team was dispatched.
The early indication is that neither speed nor alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
