WALLS, MS : 22-year-old driver is accused of striking, killing pedestrian walking on US 61 on Saturday night July 19th 2014

Authorities say a 22-year-old driver is accused of striking and killing a woman who was walking near Walls in DeSoto County.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Joey Miller tells that the female driver was heading south on U.S. Highway 61 about 10 p.m. Saturday.

Miller says she struck 36-year-old Susan Woodgate. He says Woodgate died at the scene. Authorities say it was unclear exactly how the accident happened.

Miller says the driver left the scene, but turned herself in around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

He says the investigation is continuing, and charges may be filed.

The driver has not been identified.
