Pittsburg,NH : Two snowmobilers involved in Pittsburg crash on February, Sunday 11th 2018
Two New Hampshire snowmobilers escaped serious injuries after their sleds collided on a trail in Pittsburg Sunday.
Just after 10 a.m., New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game conservation officer Chris Egan came upon the collision while patrolling trails on his snowmobile.
“The crash had occurred just seconds prior to my arrival on the scene,” Egan said. “I came through the Murphy Dam junction and observed two stationary sleds connected together and a man lying in the trail."
After calling for emergency personnel to respond, Egan identified the drivers, neither of whom appeared to have serious injuries. David Lawton, 52, of West Stewartstown, had rear-ended a snowmobile driven by Patrick Bennett, 53, of North Stratford. The impact ejected Bennett from his machine.
The two men had been riding in the same group along with several other friends at the time of the crash. Both refused medical treatment and had moderate damage to their snowmobiles.
Lawton was cited for operating at a speed greater than reasonable and prudent for the existing conditions, with a collision resulting.
Alcohol impairment was not a factor in the crash, officials said.
