Brentwood, CA : 1 dead, 1 injured in Rollover Crash near Byron Highway on Thursday morning, January 29, 2015

A Brentwood man died and another was injured early Thursday morning when a car lost control and flipped several times near the Byron Highway, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The CHP's central command unit originally reported that the driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, but Fransen later said that report was premature.

"We are checking to determine if that's true, but the information we have at this time is that there were two occupants in the vehicle," CHP spokesman Officer John Fransen said. "We are still trying to determine who the driver is."

According to Fransen, a 1948 Plymouth Deluxe was going east on Sunset Road approaching the Byron Highway at an unknown speed when the driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle and went off the road. The car flipped several times and landed on its roof.

The driver and passenger each were ejected, though it was not immediately clear which had been killed. Eduardo Rodriguez-Montano, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 19-year-old Brentwood man was taken to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.

Fransen said it was not known immediately whether signs of alcohol or an impaired driver were evident at the scene and that he did not know where those earlier reports of an arrest originated.
