1 dead, 6 injured in head-on crash in Rutherford County

One person was killed and six others injured in a head-on crash late Monday morning in Rutherford County.It happened around 11:30 a.m. on Old Nashville Highway at Amanda Way, northwest of Murfreesboro.

At least two LifeFlight helicopters responded to the scene.According to witnesses, the driver of a Celica attempted to pass in the oncoming lane of travel and hit an SUV head-on.

The driver of the car, Roland King, 53, died on the scene.Six people in the SUV, ranging in age from 18 to 71, were injured.Alcohol is believed to have played a role in the deadly crash.

Old Nashville Highway was closed for several hours while the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash.The road reopened just after 3 p.m.
