Shelby County, TN : Two people died in a crash involving five vehicles on Highway 14 near Highway 385 on Friday, Nov 6, 2015
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the two victims killed in a series of car crashes Friday on Highway 14 near Highway 385.
They are Shannon Shay, 42, of Brighton and Angela Walton, 34, of Covington.
Five cars were involved in the crash, according to the Highway Patrol.
Charges are pending for the driver of one of the cars involved, a Ford F350. The Highway Patrol identified that driver as Mark Wortham, 43, of Arlington.
Shay was one of the passengers in the 1993 Ford F350; Wortham and two other passengers were also injured. None of them were wearing a seat belt, according to the Highway Patrol.
Walton was not traveling with any passengers.
The driver of a separate vehicle also suffered injuries, but those in the other two cars involved were unhurt.
The Ford was traveling southbound on Highway 14 when it crossed over the double yellow line, sideswiping a second vehicle, which was heading northbound, according to the Highway Patrol. That vehicle was able to continue driving and exit the highway; the driver was uninjured.
The Ford then hit a second vehicle, the Honda Civic driven by Walton, head-on.
The Ford kept driving, going southbound in the northbound lane, and hit a 1988 GMC GC1 head-on, causing both cars to come to a stop. A fifth car, traveling northbound, then hit the rear of the GMC GC1.
