The driver and sole occupant of the car, 31-year-old Gordon Tristen, was taken into custody and transported to Waterbury Hospital for further evaluation. Tristen was charged with reckless driving, and 5 counts of reckless endangerment. He was later released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.

Ted Woods said his 18-year-old stepson was watching television in the living room when the car came slamming through. He was taken to Waterbury Hospital for evaluation.

“We had a real brush with death. My stepson was in the front, and he’s okay, unfortunately he’s in the hospital,” Woods said. “When it comes to this street, this is the third time in less than three years that we’ve had an accident on this front step.”

“Three times in three years, something needs to be done,” he said. “We’re scared to come back to the house.”

Police say part of North Main Street was shut down due to the accident but has since reopened.
