Dothan, AL : Three killed, including 10-year-old, in separate crashes on Thursday September 27 2016
A 24-hour period between Thursday and Friday became a deadly time on Wiregrass roadways after three people died, including a 10-year-old boy , during separate vehicle crashes.
Two fatalities occurred Thursday, and a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and killed was discovered Friday morning in Dale County.
Geneva County child killed
Geneva County Coroner Robert Hagler Ward II said a 10-year-old boy, William L. Stewart, died Thursday night from the injuries he suffered in a vehicle crash. Ward said Stewart was pronounced dead from the injuries he suffered in the crash around 8:40 p.m. at Flowers Hospital on Thursday. Ward said Stewart was from the Black community.
Alabama State Trooper Kevin Cook said the child died as a result of a two-vehicle crash on Geneva County Road 61 in the Black community.
According to a statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash not only claimed the life of the 10-year-old boy, but left two other people injured.
The statement said the child was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The child was riding in a 2012 GMC Acadia as a passenger when it collided head-on with a 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Daniel Joseph Ayres, 19, of Black.
The driver of the Acadia, Shannon Camilla Stewart, 38, of Black, and Ayres, were both taken to area hospitals for treatment to their injuries.
