SILVER SPRINGS SHORES, FL : Ocala teen dies following traffic crash on Sunday, November 13th 2016

A 17-year-old Ocala resident died after a crash Sunday afternoon when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at the intersection of Bahia Road and Southeast Maricamp Road (County Road 464), according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Nickolas Watke was pronounced dead at Ocala Regional Medical Center at 4:34 p.m., FHP reported.

According to a news release from the agency, the crash occurred at 3:51 p.m. as Watke was riding a 1997 Yamaha motorcycle east in the left lane of Maricamp Road and approached the intersection of Bahia Road. A 2013 Hyundai Accent driven by Philip Catalano, 72, of Ocala, approached the intersection from the west and turned left onto Bahia Road "as the motorcycle crossed the intersection, the front of the motorcycle collided into the front of the Hyundai."

Catalano was taken to Monroe Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The FHP press release states that Watke was wearing a helmet.

Charges are pending, according to the agency.
