Lakeland, FL : 7-year-old died, 2 adults injured after a single-vehicle crash on State Road 60 in Lake Wales on Monday night, April 11, 2016
A 7-year-old Lake Wales girl died Monday night in a single-car crash on State Road 60.
Kamicheliz Ayala, of 718 Tower Point Circle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, said Donna Wood, a spokeswoman for the Polk County Sheriff's Office. The girl's mother and passenger in the vehicle, Olmary Liz Gonzalez-Bonew, 35, also of 718 Tower Point Circle, is in critical condition.
Gonzalez-Bonew and the driver, Harry Figueroa-Vasquez, 42, of 200 Emerald Ave. in Lake Wales, were taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center. Figueroa-Vasquez is in stable condition.
The crash occurred about 11:40 p.m. when Figueroa-Vasquez was driving a 2004 Suzuki SUV east on SR 60 about a mile west of West Lake Wales Road, according to the PCSO. For unknown reasons, the SUV went off the right side of the road and onto the grass shoulder, then began to rotate counterclockwise.
The vehicle re-entered the eastbound lanes and flipped multiple times before it left the roadway and came to rest upside down in a shallow ditch along SR 60, according to PCSO. Kamicheliz was thrown from the vehicle as it was flipping. She was found at the edge of SR 60.
After the initial investigation, deputies said it appears Kamicheliz was not wearing a seat belt.
Passing motorists, patrol deputies, and a Polk County Fire supervisor all arrived on scene and used multiple fire extinguishers to slow the fire long enough to extricate Gonzalez-Bonew.
