New york , NY : Two police Officers injurd in crash after crashed their motorcycles on a ramp at the New Jersey Turnpike On Sunday , January 4th 2015
Two Baltimore police officers crashed their motorcycles on a ramp at the New Jersey Turnpike Sunday as they returned in a motorcade from the funeral of a New York City Police officer who was killed last month, authorities said.
The officers, who were not identified, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries after the crash at about 3:49 p.m. on a ramp from the Goethals Bridge to the turnpike, according to a New Jersey State Police spokeswoman.
Both have since been released from the hospital, said Baltimore police spokesman Det. Ruganzu Howard on Monday. Their "injuries were minor," he said.
He said the road was wet, causing one officer to spin out and collide with the other.
Thousands of police traveled to New York Sunday for the funeral of Wenjian Liu, one of two NYPD officers killed by a man who first shot his girlfriend, Shaneka Nicole Thompson, 29, in Owings Mills on Dec. 20 before driving to Brooklyn and killing the officers and himself.
As they did at the funeral for the other officer, Rafael Ramos, many of the officers present Sunday turned their backs to New York Mayor Bill de Blasio when he spoke, a display of scorn for the mayor's perceived lack of support for officers during a summer of anti-police protests.
"Let us move forward by strengthening the bonds that unite us, and let us work together to attain peace," de Blasio said Sunday.
