El Reno, OK : Woman struck and killed while crossing State Highway 81 in Canadian County on Friday morning, February 19, 2016

Canadian County sheriff investigators said a woman was struck and killed Friday morning while crossing State Highway 81.

Undersheriff Chris West said the incident happened around 6:15 a.m. about 5 miles north of El Reno. The driver of a 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid hit the woman and told deputies he thought he hit a deer.

“Apparently the driver wasn’t sure what he hit," West said. "It wasn’t daylight. He went home, changed vehicles and went back to the scene."

The driver arrived to find an officer on the scene. He has yet to be charged as the investigation is still ongoing.

The woman was believed to have been coming from Lucky Star Casino.

She has been identified as Ellen DiBonto, of Wayne, Okla. DiBonto was visiting family in the area.
