Sarasota, FL : A serious crash injured four people at McIntosh Road on Thursday, August 10, 2017

A serious crash injured four people at McIntosh Road and Sarasota Square Boulevard on Thursday at about 2:30 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the FHP, a Chevrolet pickup driven by Tabatha Nicole Peters, 36, of Venice heading south on McIntosh Road traveled into the oncoming lane, colliding head-on with a Ford Econoline van driven by James Allen Lawton, 52, of Englewood.

Peters was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. A passenger in the pickup, Rex Wrey Peters, 39, of Venice was also hospitalized with critical injuries. A third passenger, Taylor M. Peters, 14, was taken to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg with serious injuries. It is not known if any of the people in the pickup were wearing seat belts.

Lawton was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with critical injuries. It is not known if he was wearing a seat belt.

Sarasota County Fire and Rescue responded with 14 apparatus and 25 personnel to a mass casualty incident level 1, which means there are three to five patients involved.

“It was an extended operation that involved all of our resources as far as motor vehicle crashes, with our Jaws of Life, our Hurst tools, rescue saws, cribbing, everything we had that we purchased on our apparatus was utilized in this heavy involved car wreck,” Sarasota assistant fire chief Mike Hartley told SNN.

McIntosh Road was shut down between Central Sarasota Parkway and Sarasota Square Boulevard, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office. The crash is being investigated by the FHP.
