Gainesville, FL : Two seriously injured Wednesday in crash on SR 26 on Wednesday, August 9, 2017
Two drivers were seriously injured Wednesday evening when a van crossed over into the wrong lane on State Road 26 and collided head-on with a car.
The driver of the van, Jeffery O’Connell, 40, was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital with critical injuries following the 6:14 p.m. crash near Northeast 179th Street, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.
In the car, Jacqueline Russell, 37, of Keystone Heights, was seriously injured, troopers said. She also was transported to Shands.
Troopers said the 1992 Astro van was eastbound on SR 26. A 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis was traveling west.
The van traveled into the westbound lane, causing a head-on collision, according to FHP.
Charges are pending.
