One person dies in two-vehicle accident in Alpena Michigan
A 22-year-old Alpena woman was killed in traffic accident on US-23 near East Grand Lake Road Tuesday, according to Michigan State Police.Emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon after a northbound car lost control just south of the E. Grand Lake Road intersection and was struck head-on by a southbound pickup, MSP Sgt. Craig Johnson said. The driver of the car was killed as a result.A 43-year-old Rogers City man was driving the pickup, and was transported to Alpena Regional Medical Center, according to a release from Trooper Steven Wallenius. The woman driving the other vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident occurred at around 12:40 p.m., and roads were snowy and icy at the time.
The highway between East Grand Lake Road and Lakewood Drive was closed for some hours as police investigated, Alpena County Sheriff's Sgt. J.P. Ritter said. Traffic was being redirected onto Grand Lake Road and Lakewood Drive, south of the highway.Along with MSP and sheriff's deputies, Alpena City Ambulances and Alpena Township North Side Fire Department/EMS assisted at the scene.
