Knox County, TN : One person dead and another person injured after a crash in West Knox County on Tuesday morning, Oct 20, 2015
The Knox County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) said alcohol was a factor in a Tuesday morning fatal crash in West Knox County.
The crash happened around 1:36 a.m. Tuesday. KCSO said a 1996 Chevy Astro van was traveling eastbound on Hickory Road. The driver failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection at Hardin Valley, drove through the intersection and across a small field.
The vehicle traveled through standing brush and across a yard before striking the steps at a residence on the 2100 block of Muddy Creek Drive.
Authorities found the passenger in the back of the van. The passenger was pronounced dead on the scene.
Rural Metro transported the driver to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Charges are pending against the driver. Neither the driver or passenger were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The Knox County Medical Examiner's Office will perform an autopsy on the passenger.
