I-469 reopens after a morning of crashes and clean-up

Around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Interstate 469 was reopened on the northeast side of Fort Wayne.

Crews are still working in the area of the 25 mile marker and the driving lane is briefly closed. Traffic is being allowed to pass slowly in the passing lane, Indiana State Police reported.

It was closed about 8:45 a.m. as troopers investigated one or more pileups involving as many as 15 vehicles on westbound I-469 at the 27.4 mile marker, which is between Maplecrest Road and Indiana 37.

The interstate was closed westbound between Maplecrest and Indiana 37. Troopers noted that icy conditions and occasional whiteouts made the morning commute very challenging in that area.
They urged motorists to avoid the area if at all possible until it is cleared. No serious injuries were reported.

Winds were strong all morning, sometimes topping 30 mph before dawn, with gusts reaching 45 mph.
