Kokomo, IN : A Kokomo student was injured in a crash on Friday, 16th March 2018
A Kokomo student was injured in a crash after a pickup truck rear-ended a school bus as it stopped at a railroad track.
Other than a 16-year-old female, no others involved were injured. Damage was estimated between $5,001 and $10,000, according to a Kokomo Police Department crash report.
The report states that Angela K. Dunlap, 46, was driving a school bus for the Kokomo School Corporation at around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday westbound on North Street. Dunlap stopped the bus at the railroad tracks at North and Main streets, adding that the bus’s flashers were on and the door was open so she could check the tracks.
Dunlap said the flashers were left on when she approached the tracks near the Buckeye and North streets intersection a short distance away. That’s when Ronald S. Geyton, 43, driving a RAM 1500, struck the bus from behind.
Geyton told officers he saw the school bus stop on the tracks at Buckeye and North streets, but said he saw the bus start to move. He said the bus stopped again, and he struck it before he realized it.
The 16-year-old student sitting toward the front of the bus was transferred from the scene with complaints of head pain, according to the report.
