INGALLS, IN : Truck driver and passenger injured in I-69 crash on Sunday, January, 7th 2018
The driver and a passenger of a tractor-semitrailer were injured Sunday when a chair allegedly flew out of the bed of a pickup truck ahead of them on Interstate 69.
Officer Travis Forrest of the Ingalls Police Department said Nick Negroin suffered injuries to his face and arm, and his passenger, Kristie Smith, suffered injuries to the shoulder and spine in the accident reported about 3:15 p.m. Both were transported to St. Vincent Anderson Hospital.
The semi, owned by Negroin but carrying a trailer owned by another company, was southbound from Canton, Michigan, where he and Smith live, on I-69 when the truck jackknifed near the 215 mile marker between the Lapel and Pendleton exits, Forrest said. He said the alleged pickup truck did not stop.
Traffic was stopped for about half an hour before law enforcement, including Ingalls and Pendleton police departments, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and Madison County Emergency Management and Homeland Security cleared a path in the far left-hand lane. Forrest said it took about five hours to bring the semi upright and clear the southbound lanes.
