Chico, CA : 5 injured in Grizzly Dome Tunnel crash on Highway 70 on Tuesday afternoon, April 4, 2017
Five people, including one baby, were injured when a semitrailer and a car crashed head on Tuesday afternoon in the Grizzly Dome Tunnel on Highway 70 in the Feather River Canyon.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol around 1:10 p.m. When Cal Fire-Butte County crews arrived about 30 minutes later, one person was still trapped inside the car, according to radio traffic.
Two helicopters were needed to airlift the injured from the two-lane Highway 70. A third helicopter was called to the scene but did not carry any patients.
By 2:15 p.m., Cal Fire-Butte County reported on Twitter that all five patients had been freed from the wreckage and were being transported.
Four of the injured were being taken to Enloe Medical Center and the fifth was en route to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, said Cal Fire-Butte County public information officer Mary Ann Aldrich.
