Bradenton, FL : Man dies in motorcycle crash early Monday morning, August 15, 2016
A Bradenton man died in a motorcycle accident early Monday morning in Bradenton, according to the Bradenton Police Department.
Kaleb Brownell-Stewart, 23, was traveling on a motorcycle at around 4 a.m. Monday in the 1900 block of First Street West, said Bradenton Police Captain William Fowler.
“My head is not completely straight right now,” said Brownell-Stewart’s father, Jason Brownell. “I’ve heard a lot of conflicting stories about what happened and how it happened. Right now, I’m just trying to keep it together.”
Details on what led to Brownell-Stewart’s death were not immediately available from police.
“The investigators are still working on it,” Fowler said, adding that it was a single-vehicle crash.
Brownell, 43, also of Bradenton, said his son loved motorcycles and had just one, a Suzuki.
“My son, he was a very good boy,” Brownell said, his voice shaking. “We were not close. His grandparents raised him, but after he came home from the military we had gotten pretty close.”
They mostly hung out, had cookouts and fished together. Brownell said it hadn’t been a year since his son returned from serving in the United States Navy. Brownell-Stewart’s Facebook page states he was an overnight stocker at Wal-Mart.
“He had lots of friends and even on Facebook. Just look him up,” Brownell said. “He had just nothing but good reviews that people are going to miss him and how he made an impact on their lives.”
Several people with public profiles posted grieving statuses about Brownell-Stewart. One user wrote Brownell-Stewart was such a great friend since they met in second grade, and that he will sorely miss him.
“I still can't believe I'm writing this post,” the friend wrote.
Attached to the post was a link to a video — Toby Keith’s “Cryin’ for Me.”
Kenny Jeffries, a longtime friend of Brownell-Stewart’s father, asked his friends on Facebook on Monday morning to keep the Brownell family in their prayers.
“He was an amazing kid,” Jeffries said Monday afternoon. “I watched him grow up and everything.”
Jeffries, who grew up in Manatee County and now lives in Punta Gorda, said he heard from the family about what happened.
“I was just totally devastated. He was like a nephew to me,” he said. “I was so proud of him, the way he turned out and everything. He actually was going places in life.”
