VANDALIA, IL : Driver and passenger ticketed after Vandalia rollover crash on Saturday, 3rd March 2018
A driver and his passenger were injured and ticketed Saturday afternoon when their vehicle crashed and rolled on Interstate 70 near Vandalia.
State Police Sgt. Adam Belcher said car driver Alivia L. Drew, 19, of Champaign and passenger James L. Buford, 23, of Rantoul, were both cited for the illegal transportation of alcohol in the 4:10 p.m. crash which happened as Drew was westbound.
Belcher said Drew’s vehicle drove off the left side of the road into the center median before re-entering the roadway and colliding with the rear of a semi-truck trailer and overturning, coming to rest on its roof. Drew and Buford were both taken to Fayette County Hospital for treatment.
The semi truck driver, Rajinder Singh, 31, of Fresno, Calif., was not listed as being hurt.
Belcher said Drew was also ticketed for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, having no insurance, obstructing an officer and littering.
