Jackson, MS : Woman dies of injuries after crashing into doughnut shop in Cahokia on Sunday, 6th November 2016

A woman from Columbia, Ill., was fatally injured Sunday in a single-vehicle crash in Cahokia.

Police identified the victim as Noura Soueidan, 32.

Cahokia Police Lt. Gary Brewer said Soueidan was driving north on Mississippi Avenue (Route 3) in a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe.

A witness driving a car in the same direction said Soueidan's vehicle sped past her. The witness said it looked like Soueidan was on her cellphone.

Soueidan lost control and went into a ditch about 11:40 a.m. The vehicle flipped over a couple times, Brewer said. The vehicle then hit a doughnut shop at 3411 Mississippi Avenue and came to rest on its roof, police say.

Soueidan wasn't wearing a seat belt, Brewer said. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.
