Newport News, VA : 21-year-old woman killed in York County crash on Wednesday night, March 15, 2017
A 21-year-old Newport News woman was killed in a crash on Hampton Highway in York County late Wednesday night, police said.
Virginia State Police arrived to the crash, at the intersection of Big Bethel Road, just after 11 p.m., according to a news release from police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya.
There, they found one vehicle that had crashed into a tree, she said.
Investigators believe Briana Raven Werth, 21, of the 400 block of Youngs Mill Lane in Newport News, was driving southbound on Hampton Highway and lost control, Anaya said.
Werth's 2013 Kia Optima ran off the road, into the ditch and struck a tree, Anaya said.
It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash, she said.
No additional information has been released.
